Varpu, also known as an Uruly. These lost wax bronze vessels are traditional ceremonial cooking vessels from South India.
These beautiful pots are used for cooking and serving food at religious festivals and marriage ceremonies. Temples and families commission them for special occasions. The handles have beautiful ornamentation. Rods are inserted through the sides so they can be picked up and placed on the fire.
Artisans use the ancient Lost Wax method to make these amazing pots. The designs are very old and have been passed down for generations, which makes them hard to date. Most of these are at least 100 years old and have wondrous patina from years of use.
Cooking in Bonze has many benefits including retaining over 95% nutrients and micro nutrients, enhances intellect, improves gut health, appetite & immunity, purifies blood, and is also known for killing harmful germs.
Bronze varpu uruli can also be used for decorative purposes.
To use uruli for the first time, you can:
Apply oil inside and outside of the uruli
Repeat the process for at least three days
Fill the uruli with starch water for 12 hours a day, drain it, and repeat the process for the next two days
